めろめろ

This is an onomatopoeia that you’ll want to use around valentines and/or when heavily drunk. Hopefully the former is used more than the latter. めろめろ characterizes the phenomimic states of being madly in love and falling down drunk. It should come to no surprise that the two seemingly different states share a similar description. After all, one can be falling drunk in love, if this author may put so poetically.

めろめろ is a Na-adjective (as in describing nouns with the な particle), a simple noun, or an adverb.

Let’s look at the first definition being used:

私はもうあなたに夢中、メロメロなのよ。

Watashi ha mou anata ni muchuu, meromero na no yo.

I’m stuck on you, really far gone.

For the example of noun usage, we take from a news article talking about Johnny Depp. The title of the article is:

J・デップにめろめろ「セクシーなオーラがあるわ～」

J • Deppu ni meromero 「sekushi- na o-ra ga aru wa~」

Johnny Depp talks about his crushing “sexy aura” that he has.

The translation is only rough, but essentially means that Johnny Depp has an aura about him that is crushing in the sense that it captures the hearts of women all over the world. Perhaps he may have still been too めろめろ (read: drunk) after his set on Pirates of the Caribbean when making this statement.
